Saltwater (Marine) Fishing

Connecticut (Nutmeg State) offers year round fishing action that few places can rival. With over 100 species of fish found in Long Island Sound, anglers can enjoy some of the very best striped bass, bluefish, summer flounder, scup, hickory shad and tautog fishing along the entire coast. The State of Connecticut offers anglers many fishing opportunities with excellent boat launches along the coast and great shore fishing locations at coastal state parks, and convenient party and charter boat fishing.   FISHING IS FAMILY FUN!

  • Public Act 09-173 establishing a marine waters fishing license was signed into law on July 1.  A marine waters fishing license is now required for fishing in the marine district.
  • DEP Environmental Conservation Police will begin checking for licenses immediately; however the DEP recognizes that it will take some time to make all of our state's saltwater anglers aware of the new license requirement and our initial focus will be on public education and outreach.
  • The new licenses are available online and at all current vendors and DEP offices where the existing freshwater fishing and hunting licenses are sold.
  • Please see Marine Waters Fishing License FAQ page for more information.
